Q ~ Where is Bike the Sites?
Check in at our purple and yellow kiosk on the rear plaza of The Old Post Office
Pavilion for all tours and rentals. We are located on 12th Street, NW between
Pennsylvania and Constitution, directly across the street from the Federal Triangle
metro (orange and blue lines). See map.
If our kiosk is closed, walk down the alleyway to the over-sized garage doors.
Q ~ How do your tours work?
Tour participants meet on the rear plaza of The Old Post Office Pavilion 15
minutes prior to tour departure times. We provide each participant with an appropriately-sized
bike, helmet and a water bottle. Participants may also bring their own bike
if preferred, cost is $5 less. Each participant is required to sign a waiver
and release form at the start of the tour. Children not of legal age must have
a parent or guardian sign his or her waiver. After going over bike usage and
safety, the guide leads the group (no more than 15 participants per guide) on
their adventure. The tours take place on paths, trails, and sidewalks, and our
guides help to make sure that all participants safely cross streets. Multiple
stops are built into the tour, and there are plenty of opportunities to ask
questions and take pictures.
Q ~ Who can participate?
Our tours are completed at a relaxing pace and are for the "occasional"
exerciser — we welcome anyone who is in sufficient health to comfortably
ride a bicycle. We will do our best to accommodate any special needs —
please contact us to discuss.
Q ~ What about kids?
Competent children 4' 6" or taller ride their own bikes; toddlers and small
children ride along behind a parent or guardian in trailer carriers and on tandem
trailers (child trailers that attach to an adult bike ). A parent or guardian
must accompany children under 16.
Q ~ Who leads your tours?
Our lead guides have been professionally licensed and trained in CPR and First
Aid. All other guides are avid cyclists and may be professionally licensed and
trained in CPR and First Aid. Gratuities for your guides are greatly appreciated.
Q ~ How long are your tours?
Each of our tours is approximately 3 hours in length. We provide you with bottled
water and a light snack. Please plan to arrive about 15-20 minutes prior to
your tours’ scheduled departure time.
Q ~ What do I need to bring?
We provide you with a comfort mountain bike fitted to your size, a helmet, bottled
water and a light snack. All tours are outdoors so wear seasonally appropriate
clothing (not too loose) and closed-toe shoes. Remember your camera, and please
pack lightly, as you will be riding with your belongings.
Q ~ How do I make reservations?
Reserve your tour or rental with a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Click
on the make a reservation now button and select any day. We will ask for a list
of all participants and their approximate heights so we may fit each rider with
the appropriate size bike.
Q ~ What if it rains?
We will go out in a light rain or drizzle (it’s actually a good time to
go, since it usually means fewer pedestrians). We cancel for safety reasons
during high winds, thunderstorms, excessive heat or cold, or other severe conditions.
In the event of a weather cancellation, you may either reschedule for another
tour or request a full refund. We ask for your cell phone number or hotel so
that we can notify you of any necessary changes.
OUR MISSION We create safe, fun and dynamic experiences on wheels!
OUR HISTORY
Bike the Sites started in 1996 to conduct guided bike tours on and around the National Mall in Washington, DC. We opened our downtown shop in February 2003 and added rentals to our already popular bike tours. In 2005 we became a managing member of Bike and Roll, an international network of bike rental companies offering outstanding customer service, exceptional value, and quality rental equipment. In January of 2006, we launched the first of what we hope to be several satellite locations at the Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park.
TODAY
Today, we are pleased to offer night tours, family-friendly excursions, wheelchair and mobility scooter rentals and a whole lot more.
Our priority is to provide excellent service, high-quality equipment and a fun means of touring. We think Bike the Sites tours are the best way to see Washington, but don’t just take our word for it – read what our customers have to say:
“The Bike the Sites trip was AWESOME--it was a DC highlight for my out of town guests AND I loved it!”
“Our tour guide was great and made the trip really interesting and fun, and the monuments were beautiful at night. It was a fantastic way to see the capital.”
